Oyo Team Makes 18,700 Feet

5 May 2013 -
We have spent several days now at Advanced Base Camp (ABC) and the entire team
is making excellent progress in the critical acclimatizing process. We are all
sleeping well at 18,700 feet.
While we are enjoying our time in ABC nestled in a panorama of rugged
Himalayan peaks, we are looking forward to the actual climbing. Yesterday, we
made our first trip to Camp One. This involved a long traverse across a
glacier and a long, difficult ascent up a miserable scree field.
We are awed by the strength and stamina of the three Tibetan yaks that have
been tasked with carrying most of our gear. We are also grateful for our
Sherpa - who did a great job of putting in Camp One on a flat section of ice,
out of the wind. Camp One resides at almost 21, 000 and entailed a personal
best high altitude record for many team members.
The routes to Camps 2 &3 are clearly visible from Camp One, and we are eager
to tackle those routes.
Today is a rest & recovery day, and many team members are enjoying the luxury
of a brief shower here in camp.
Tomorrow we go back to Camp One and spend the night. Then climb to Camp Two
and the ice fall, before returning to Advanced Base Camp.
