9 May 2013 -
This is Scott Patch sending this update on the Summit Climb Spring 2013 Cho
Oyu Team. We are enjoying a couple of days of well-deserved rest at ABC
(Advanced base Camp). ABC sits at roughly 5700 meters (18,700 ft).
Tomorrow, we will head out for Camp One (6400 m/21,000 ft.) and do an
overnight there. Then another day of traveling to Camp Two; with an overnight
stay there as well. Camp Two's altitude is approximately 7145 meters, or
23,440 feet above sea level.
We'll then return all the way back to ABC, for additional rest and recovery.
This up and back hiking & climbing schedule is essential for everyone to get
acclimatized to the high altitudes, helping prepare everyone for a successful
and safe ascent to the summit.
The skies have been clear & blue in the mornings, with a few scattered snow
showers in the afternoons. Thanks for following our team, and we will report
back again soon.
